How to Create a Love filled February using English

February is the month of love! Vibrant colors in pink and red often are the first things that come to mind. But when you are trying to create a safe environment for English learning on the theme of love, what are activities and related programs to consider?

Books

Books, books, and more books! I can not get enough books of books. Some fantastic books for children that are all based on the theme of love are: The Wonderful Things You Will Be by Emily Winfield Martin, All You Need Is Love by Emma Chichester Clark, or the classicThe Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein.

There are so many good books out there on the topic of love that you can't go wrong! But books on the topic of family or feelings are also a great choice during the month of February! Such as All Kinds of Families! by Mary Ann Hoberman or The Feelings Book by Todd Parr.

Activities

I love doing crafts to decorate the house or to make Valentine's cards to brighten up someones day. But activities don't have to be only craft related. Projects that let your child be creative but have some guided learning are great way to create opportunities for fun learning.

An I Love... project is a great way to interview your child about things the love. It can be as simple as a food the love to eat or more complex and personal. This type of activity combines speaking, listening, writing, and creative expression all into one project.

Other activities such as cooking, play dough activity mats, and sensory bins are a great addition to keeping your child actively learning. Just remember look to pare the activity with the vocabulary or phrases you wish to practice in your home.

Songs

My son and I have become known for singing while biking around our city. Twinkle twinkle little star is always a top hit for us. Though, this month I have a few songs that we will be adding to our song list. Here are a few to check out!

February does not have to only be about love, family and feeling are also good alternative topics. Regardless, at least having a few English books and doing an activity or two will make any theme a little more enjoyable for the whole family. Though I highly recommend adding a few new songs to your playlist as well!

No matter how you get everyone exited about LOVE just have fun with it. In my house that means a few heart themed crafts here and there and a lot of singing and dancing.

What are some activities you will do for this month? Let me know in the comments section below!
